3 Day Mekong Delta Itinerary
Day 1
Morning: Start your Mekong adventure with a 2-hour drive to Cai Be. Here, we’ll hop on a private boat to explore the busy Cai Be floating market. This is a fantastic photo opportunity so make sure your camera is ready!
Next, we’ll visit some of the local cottage industries to help us understand more about the economy and daily life in the Mekong. Enjoy sweet treats at the coconut candy workshop and learn how to make puffed-rice, puff-corn, and rice paper at the rice factory.
Back on the boat, head deeper into the tangle of tributaries, stopping at a local house for lunch.
Afternoon: Your final cruise along the Mekong will take you to the quay in Vinh Long province.
Transfer by car to Long Xuyen, where you’ll learn the traditional art of crafting incense sticks.
Head on to spend the night in Chau Doc.
Day 2
Morning: Rise early to take a cruise through a nearby floating village. Here the locals make a living with fish farms, which you’ll float beside underneath hundreds of shelters.
Continue the boat cruise to Da Phuoc, a Muslim Cham village across the river on Con Tien island. Here, discover the village with its famous Mubarak Mosque and watch the traditional weaving techniques of the local women.
Afternoon: In the afternoon, visit the incredible Tra Su Cajuput Forest in Tinh Bien, close to the Cambodian border. This underwater forest is a sight to behold and is home of hundreds of species of plants and birds.
Back on land, we’ll head for Can Tho, the 4th largest city in Vietnam and the largest city in the Mekong Delta.
Before checking in to your hotel for the night, visit the Binh Thuy ancient house built in 1870. Admire the blend of French architecture and local Southern Vietnamese details.
Day 3
Morning: Leave the hotel early to cruise further along the mighty Mekong River to Cai Rang floating market. The largest of its kind, this is where you’ll find a colourful display of boats carrying juicy fruits and vegetables.
Continue the cruise & step on land to swap your boat for a bicycle. Take to the quiet country roads to take in the magnificent scenery and get close to the locals as they go about their daily routine.
Afternoon: Have lunch near My Tho and pay a visit to Vinh Trang pagoda. Admire the unique mix of Vietnamese, Chinese and Cambodian construction of this peaceful temple, before heading back to the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City.
